Opendoor names Lucas Matheson president, Christy Schwartz CFO
The executive team switch-ups at iBuyer Opendoor are continuing. On Monday, the firm announced the appointments of Lucas Matheson as president and Christy Schwartz as chief financial officer.
Matheson most recently served as the CEO of Coinbase Canada. Prior to this, Matheson spent five years in a variety of operational roles at Shopify where he oversaw things like M&A, corporate financial planning and strategic expansion. Matheson is the second Shopify alum to join Opendoor’s executive team, as the iBuyer’s new CEO Kaz Nejatian had previously served as Shopify’s chief operating officer.
In his new role, Matheson will oversee corporate development, financial planning and analysis, and new and emerging strategic initiatives.
“Real estate is one of the last major asset classes that hasn’t been touched by the financial innovation happening everywhere else,” Matheson said in a statement. “Opendoor has already proven you can reimagine how people buy and sell homes. I’m here to help execute on what’s next.”
Unlike Matheson, Schwartz is not a newcomer to Opendoor. She has served as the firm’s interim CFO since mid-September, a role she previously held from December 2022 to November 2024. She also served as Opendoor’s chief accounting officer from March 2021 to May 2025. Earlier in her career with Opendoor, Schwartz served as the company’s vice president, corporate controller, from August 2016 until March 2021.
“We looked everywhere,” Nejatian said in a statement. “We talked to CFOs from nearly every sector. And we realized the person with the deepest command of our business, the trust of every team, and the bias for action we need was already here.”
Radhakrishna to remain as CTO
In addition to these two appointments, Opendoor also announced that Shrisha Radhakrishna, who had been serving as its interim president, will remain at the company as its chief technology and product officer, a role he has held since October 2024.
“Shrisha kept this Company moving forward through a challenging stretch,” Nejatian said. “His steady hand gave us the time to get this right. He’s back to what he does best: building the product that changes how America buys and sells homes.”
As Nejatian looks to take Opendoor into its next chapter, he said it is his job to find the “best person for every seat.”
“This is the team for the next version of Opendoor, one built for speed, clarity and impact,” he said. “Every day we don’t make real progress is a day we don’t make homeownership better. We’re not going to waste days.”
